March is Spiritual Wellness Month.
For starters, what does Spiritual Wellness month mean? It is my state of harmony and wellness with myself and others. Surrounding myself with a sense of spiritual purpose in life, beliefs, values and certain practices that can help with my overall well being. My morals and ethics play a big role and though I am a practicing Christian, you can still find spiritual wellness without being religious.
Spiritual Wellness is celebrated in the month of March to get folks to improve their consciousness. As stated by National Today:
- It promotes self-care. Celebrating Spiritual Wellness Month serves as a reminder to take care of ourselves. When you practice self-care, it improves your health and increases your lifespan.
- It helps to re-evaluate goals. Some people usually need a spark to re-evaluate their goals. Spiritual Wellness Month serves as a perfect opportunity for this.
- It drives us to do better. Getting in touch with your spirituality helps you to enhance your life. After examination, there’ll always be a part that can be improved.

To reach you spiritual wellness potential, here are key words or phrases that come to my mind when I think of a spiritual wellness:
Gratitude: to shift your way of thinking and focus on appreciation. To recognize the positive aspects of your lives and how you can change the negative.
Mindfulness: being aware of what is in your mind, acknowledge it and reflect.
Sense of purpose: meaning in life, daily activities, your job and service to others.
Inner peace: with yourself and others.
Compassion: Forgiveness is so hard but to find compassion with yourself and others
Balance: to find balance in your needs as well as the needs of others.
A few activities that may help you in your spiritual wellness journey.
- Yoga: you have heard me say this before in my Keep Moving article. Yoga is so good for us. For me it is a physical and mental spiritual wellness. A form of meditation and mindfulness through breathing and movements. I always feel invigorated after a practice.

- Walking and spending time in the garden: I love to be outside, it is the perfect place to connect with nature. The gratitude I feel when breathing in the fresh air and hearing the birds chirping is so calming. Having my hands in the dirt knowing that my hard work is for a reason, to provide for my family and others.
- Journaling: the power of self discovery is incredible when you put the pen to the paper. Show your gratitude by writing it daily.
- Volunteering: lending a helping hand in your community with no expectations in return can be very gratifying. It serves as a sense of purpose and possible connection with others.
- The power of prayer: For me it is a way to surrender spiritually via reading scripture. Find your inner power to be open and mindful while being still and honest. Maybe consider prayer in a different light, the act of allowing us to change our ways.

Winter is coming to an end and Spring is right around the corner. As new buds are blooming, it is the perfect time to shed some stress and to grow healthy spiritually. Creating spiritual wellness habits is such a great addition to our lives. It can guide your thoughts, meanings, values, morals and beliefs. The ultimate goal is to put them in action in your everyday life. There is not a better time than the present to find some spiritual wellness in your life.
