If you have been following along with a few of my blog posts, you know that gardening is my jam. But with a new year and a new garden season, it’s time to weed out the hate and start this season with planting some kindness.
This day is all about finding some time to weed out what is harmful to you and grow what can help you from the inside out. Just like my garden soil, it needs some compost and tending to.
We need the same.
Changing our thoughts and actions helps us thrive. Removing the anger, frustration and judgment opens up a bigger space for peace, understanding, and grace.
When we hold onto hate in our hearts too long, those roots keep growing. They become longer and stronger to the point where they are harder to pull out. Today is the day to reflect on what hate we are growing inside and around us. It’s time to weed it out.
Here are a few ways I’m going to try to weed out hate.
Choose Forgiveness Over Grudges
Opt for face-to-face conversations rather than behind someone’s back. Pluck out negative feelings and focus on the positive growth of ourselves and others. Do not use the whole glass full of water on that new seedling. Instead, spread a few sprinkles on all the seedlings. They all need my full attention and nurturing.
Pull Out Weeds in the Surrounding Area
Plant a few fresh flowers or veggies. Make it a family, co-worker, or neighborhood event where everyone can take part in planting. Then you can all watch and tend to the growth of these beautiful plantings and reap the benefits.
Blow on the Dandelion Flowers and Watch the Seeds Fly
Just like those seeds, spread joy, not hate, with words of affirmation towards others. Show them how thankful and grateful you are for them in your life. Send them a card, a quick message, or a phone call. This is an easy way to express your gratitude. I promise it will brighten their day and may even cause them to reciprocate.
Volunteer in Your Community
Volunteering doesn’t always have to be an act of service. It might be a listening ear. Support your local businesses or participate in events your community offers. Being active in your community can only strengthen the roots and create more beauty for all.
Understand Others
Not everyone likes kale, but maybe you can educate them on something else. Hear others’ perspectives and reasons. Reflect on them.
Include everyone in this special day of weeding out hate.
Marc Daniels knew what he was doing back in 2010 when he created “Weed Out Hate Day”. Inspired by his grandfather’s invention, the Ross Root Feeder. This incredible tool helps to nourish the trees directly to the roots. Similar to how we should be nourishing others and ourselves. To bypass the leaves and stem and send love and kindness directly to where it matters.
Weeding out hatred is just like pulling the weeds out of our gardens; they need to go. Not only does it keep our mind and body moving, but adding a bit of love to others can bring so much joy. I will be adding this tool to my garden this season, to nourish where it matters and to weed out hatred today and every day.
