As a mama of 5 and a lover of all-things-Christmas, I’m thrilled to share my favorite tried and true kid-friendly Christmas cookie recipes from around the web with you! I included my own not-even-close-to-professional photos to show you that you that anyone can make these yummies treats.
CHRISTMAS LIGHT SUGAR COOKIES
Sugar cookies are a Christmas staple and this recipe is super simple. The whole family can get in on this one, from rolling the dough to cutting out the shapes, and decorating the Christmas lights on the top of the cookie. No smeared frosting and globs of sprinkles on these pretty cookies! Christina Lane shares this recipe on her blog, Dessert for Two. We tried it out and thought they were both delicious and fun.
GOOEY BUTTER COOKIES
Growing up in St Louis, I fell in love with Gooey Butter Cake at a young age. So when I found this recipe for Gooey Butter Cookies, I knew it would quickly become a favorite, and it did. It’s Santa’s favorite, as well! Littles who don’t mind getting a little messy will have fun rolling the dough balls in the bowl of powdered sugar… that is, if you can get them to stop eating the gooey batter right out of the bowl! OREO TRUFFLES
Oreo truffles aren’t exactly a Christmas “cookie”, but they’re certainly on our family’s list of favorite Christmas goodies. Made with crushed sandwich cookies, cream cheese, and candy melts, these treats are the perfect rich and creamy addition to your Christmas cookie tin. Little hands can help roll truffles into a ball and top with sprinkles. Try this recipe from Ashton over at Something Swanky.
PEANUT BUTTER BLOSSOMS
These cookies have been around forever and while they’re not nut allergy friendly, they’re still a holiday favorite at our house. If you’re not the most patient mama in the world (guilty!), this is a great recipe because while you’re mixing up the dough, your littles can be unwrapping the chocolate candies that you’ll plop on top when the cookies are done baking. They get to help, and you don’t have a mess! There’s a zillion peanut butter blossom recipes out there, but I like Sara’s at Dinner at the Zoo.
EVERYTHING CHRISTMAS COOKIES
This recipe gets made more at my house than any other recipe all year long. It’s my Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. It’s my Oatmeal Raisin Cookie recipe. It’s my Everything Autumn Cookie recipe. And it’s my Everything Christmas Cookie recipe. It’s a recipe of my own making and after years of tweaking, I’ve developed the perfect recipe for soft, chewy, delicious cookies.
