Today is National Family Day! Families come in all shapes and sizes and the day is set aside to celebrate the meaningful people in your life. What better way to celebrate your family than with a Family Game Night!Don’t worry! I’m not talking about those kids games that are designed to never end and make parents want to pull their hair out (I’m looking at you Chutes & Ladders!) Today I’m sharing our families favorite games that keep both our kids entertained and also challenge them!
My family tries to do game night a few times a week. Sometimes it is a quick game like Uno Jr. or Spot It!, other times we’ll pull out a longer game like Catan Junior!
Best Family Board Games
Outfoxed – This is a fun, cooperative, “Whodunnit” game where players attempt to solve who stole Mrs. Plumperts Pot Pie! There is no one winner or loser, you all play and work together to try to crack the case. One fun addition to this game is whoever last ate pie gets to go first! (Now whenever we have pie my kids always inevitably ask to play Outfoxed after!)
Funny Bunny – perfect first game to introduce to kids around the age of 3! Ravensburg is a great puzzle and game company (you’ll see them featured a lot in this article!) Our daughter is in kindergarten and still loves this game!
Rhino Hero – Think Jenga… but not as loud because it is played with cards and also there is a wooden rhino that adds an extra challenge!
Ticket to Ride First Journey – Players collect train cards and plan out a route to complete their journey. This game is also a great way to talk about North American geography
Catan Junior – this is another junior version of a popular adult game. We love to listen to the Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack while we play!
No Stress Chess – I am forever grateful for Susie from Busy Toddler for sharing about this game! I had never played chess before but my son was interested in learning about it. No Stress Chess has a two sided board, one side guides you through each move (along with a corresponding deck of cards). Once the players have mastered the first level, they can play traditional chess on the back of the board.
Labyrinth – (told you we like Ravensburg in this house!) Collect all your pieces in this ever changing game board maze! There is many different themes for Labyrinth, we have the Pokémon one
Games that are perfect to throw in your purse or a bag:
Spot It – We have 3 different versions of this game, one stays on our game shelf, one is normally in my purse, and one is in our suitcase! That’s how fun this game is!! The rules are very simple and the instructions come with multiple ways to play! There are so many themes you can get, we love the Harry Potter one and the Disney one!
Eye Found It – The perfect card game for fans of hidden picture puzzles! This is great to play when you are waiting for your food at a restaurant because it is quick to clean up also.
Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza – A hilarious, fast-paced card game that will have you laughing out loud and also want to order a pizza!
Sleeping Queens – I found out about this game from our 2023 Gift Guide! This game was actually created by a six year old girl while she was having trouble falling asleep! Your kids will have so much fun waking and collecting the most queens, they won’t even realize they’re practicing math skills while playing!
With all card games, we have found this card holder is perfect for small hands that struggle with holding onto multiple cards!
I hope you have a wonderful Family Day and that your next game night is enjoyable! Let me know in the comments what your family’s favorite game is!
