Are you stationed in Virginia or just visiting?Â
Winter in Virginia doesn’t have to be a downer. There are plenty of opportunities to see all the beauty with day trips.
This is our second time being stationed in Virginia and to be honest, I did not cherish all the beauty this state has to offer the first time (thank you to my early twenties, single and kid-less). So with a couple of days to burn in the winter, we thought we should start taking advantage of day trips here. We did these in December, but you can visit these places throughout any season of the year. Each season holds its own beauty.Â
Take a look at these three ideas for day trips in Virginia in the winter!
Shenandoah
Sadly, we didn’t get to take a hike in the mountains. But we did get to take a tour in Shenandoah Caverns. I 100% recommend this tour. Pictures truly do not do it justice. The caverns were originally discovered in 1884 and have since evolved to include an American Celebration Parade, venue for weddings, and Main Street of Yesteryear.Â
Veritas Vineyard
As much of a wine connoisseur as I claim to be, I am just now visiting my first vineyard. Wine country in Virginia can span all over the state, so you can find plenty of vineyards try. We decided on Veritas since they are pet and family friendly. Keep in mind when wanting to visit a vineyard (or any attraction) to do some research prior. A lot of the vineyards were closed for winter!
Great Wolf Lodge
These lodges are so entertaining! This was the first time I visited one, and there was something for everyone to do. We booked on Cyber Monday when the rate was insanely low; otherwise, we probably would not have visited during this time. The kids had a blast in the indoor water park, mini golf, rock climbing, and adventure course.Â
There are TONS of places we would love to visit with our time here in Virginia. Have you visited one of the places I mentioned above? Do you have any recommendations for Virginia day trips?
