Welcome to our newest series. In “Friday Favorites,” our team will share a handful of favorite items. These can range from clothes to beauty products to recipes to books and anything in between.

Whether you’re searching for a gift for your whole family this holiday season or just trying to pass the time as we hunker down for winter, consider these suggestions from my family’s favorite games.

Tabletop Baseball Game

For ages 6+, this 2 player game is perfect for your sports nut. We bought it for my son’s seventh birthday. He just loves playing with my husband who also enjoyed it as a child. It is a great alternative for when it’s too cold to play ball outside or you just can’t have another baseball thrown in your family room.

Outfoxed!

For ages 5+ and 2-4 players, this game from Gamewright quickly became a family favorite in my house as waited on our HHG shipment to arrive. Touted as a “cooperative whodunit” game that takes only 20 minutes, it teaches children to use reasoning skills and boosts memory as they act as chicken detectives to outsmart the fox.

Bop It!

For ages 8+, this fan-favorite can be played individually to beat your personal best score or in “Party Bop” mode where you try to outscore other players. We acquired this gem from our neighbors whose kids recently moved out. To be honest, I think my husband and I enjoy this even more than our kids and have been known to play it after they go to bed. 😉

Trouble Game

For ages 5+ and 2-4 players, this is my choice when you’re looking for a good classic board game. It moves quickly enough to keep your younger kids engaged but can be played repeatedly if your family gets really into it. I love that the rules aren’t too complicated either; even my preschooler knew them by heart after this became a quarantine fave in our house last spring.

DOS

Not a board game, but I did purchase DOS last year for my first grade. Although it was a little complicated at first, we both enjoy it. For ages 7+ and 2-4 players, this definitely has more rules than its well-known predecessor, UNO, but it does have the hidden benefit of making your kids work on their arithmetic skills.
