A friend gave me a call
Asked what I had been up to
Without giving it a thought, I replied:
Nothing, nothing at all
Turning off lights
Walking down the hall
Feeling oh so tired
From doing nothing, nothing at all
Around 9 in the morning
A friend gave me a call
Asked what I was doing
To which I was going to reply
With my typical answer
Nothing, nothing at all
But I gave it a thought
I gave it a ponder
So tired from doing nothing
It’s got to make you wonder
It was 9 am
What had I done?
Fed a husband,
made coffee to go
Got three kids dressed,
packed lunches,
made breakfast
Signed reading logs and home spelling tests
3 kids out the door to school on time
Got a load into the laundry
Took the dog for a walk
And all before 9 o’clock
Between 9 AM and 3 o’clock
I finished a grad school paper
Took a quiz, made some beds
Thought about laundry, went shopping instead
Grocery shopping that is
Found the Kraft string cheese
The veggies with no peas
And the other requested food needs
Got back home, put groceries away
And gave the dog some love
Jumped and screamed as I killed a bug
Then thought about the laundry once more
Swept and vacuumed floors
Put breakfast dishes away
All before realizing
I have only eaten one snack today
Alarm went off
Kids would be home soon
Finally got the laundry into the dryer
Wooo Hooo!
It’s 3:30, kids are home
Snacks then homework
We are on our way
Taekwondo and piano to play
Husband’s home
It’s already six
Dinner in the oven
Time to solve sibling conflicts
Everyone’s fed
Showered and off to bed
Remembered the laundry
Once again
Laundry will sleep in the dryer tonight
But at least the kitchen is cleaned
Sports bra on, athletic shorts too
A Run on my treadmill with Netflix streamed
Turning off lights
Walking down the hall
Feeling oh so tired
From doing nothing, nothing at all
Here’s the truth
For us stay at home moms
It’s impossible to do
Nothing, nothing at all.
