Summer break is here, and I don’t know about you, but I’m already thinking about how to balance activities. If you’re in the same boat, podcasts have honestly been a lifesaver in our house.
Enter….Podcasts!
Podcasts keep the kids engaged and spark their curiosity. Best of all, buy me a little quiet time. Definitely worth having in your back pocket this summer.
But Why: A Podcast for Curious Kids
One of our absolute favorites is But Why: A Podcast for Curious Kids. What makes it stand out is not just the thoughtful, kid-friendly answers to big questions, but the educational supplements that go along with it. It sparks deeper conversations long after the episode ends for all of us.
Weird But True
Another hit in our house, especially with my son, is Weird But True. Each episode shares fascinating facts from the book series by National Geographic. After listening, we’ll head to the library to track down the matching books and keep it going. It’s simple, interactive, and keeps curiosity alive.
The Magic in Your Local Library
Don’t sleep on The Magic in Your Local Library if you’re looking for more easy (and free!) ways to keep kids entertained.
National Parks for Kids
A personal favorite of mine is National Parks for Kids. Hosted by a mother-and-son duo, it explores the beauty and wonder of America’s National Parks. Having spent the first seven years of my son’s life living in Europe, this podcast was a meaningful way for us to connect with places we haven’t yet experienced together. It’s even helped build excitement as we prepare to move back to the States.
If you’re looking to “bargain” with your kids for less screen time.
Podcasts are an easy loop pole while still using a device. They entertain, educate, and, best of all, bring a little more calm into the chaos of life. Check out DoD MWR Libraries for more ideas!
