After six years of military life in Europe, our family is home in time for history. As exciting as it is to return to the United States, the timing makes this move feel especially meaningful.
We are coming back during the World Cup, and as America celebrates its 250th birthday.

Nationwide Celebration
What makes this transition especially memorable is the atmosphere of celebration waiting for us. Across the country, communities are gathering to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, reflecting on the nation’s history, resilience, and future. At the same time, the World Cup is bringing people together through a shared love of sport and a renewed sense of pride. Americans are proudly waving red, white, and blue. But they are also filling stadiums, neighborhoods, and living rooms, supporting the countries that represent their heritage, family roots, military assignments, and friendships formed around the world.
As a military spouse, there’s something incredibly special about returning home during a moment when the world is coming to America. Fans from every corner of the globe are traveling here to share their traditions, languages, and love of the game.
In many ways, it mirrors military life itself: a community strengthened by people from different backgrounds coming together with a common purpose.
As a mom, I find myself emotional knowing my children will experience America in a way they never have before, not as visitors squeezing in memories with family during leave, but as residents reconnecting with their own country. They have spent much of their childhood learning about America from afar.
Creating Memories and History
Now they will experience its traditions, celebrations, and communities firsthand as they celebrate their first 4th of July on American soil, making history of their own.
Returning during this historic season, these symbols of patriotism carry a deeper meaning. They remind us of everything our family has experienced, endured, and gained throughout this journey, and importantly, the “why.”
After six years away, we’re ready to rediscover America through fresh eyes, grateful hearts, and a renewed appreciation for the place we call home.
